Robert C. (Bob) Jacobson, CBO. CBCO.
Co-owner
Background:
Bob spent 13 years as a commercial carpenter and job superintendent in Memphis and holds an Associate of Applied Science, Building Construction Technology degree, from State Technical Institute. In 1983 while supervising a commercial project in Bartlett TN the retiring inspector suggested he apply for the job. Bartlett hired him and gave him a code book and told to go home and read it. "I read it in one weekend, thought about how little I learned from that reading and then read it again." This began a long career of code enforcement. During the time with Bartlett, Bob served on committees with both the Southern Building Code Congress International and the technical subcommittees that helped create the International Codes. While working for Bartlett and serving on the Board of Directors of The Tennessee Building Officials Association, he was awarded the Tennessee Building Official of the year award, The President's Award, and twice awarded the West Tennessee Building Official of the Year.
On his retirement from the City of Bartlett he was awarded a life time honorary membership to the TBOA. After retiring as Director of Code Enforcement for the City of Bartlett, Bob obtained a Tennessee General Contractors License and built light commercial and large residential structures. During this time he also worked as a code consultant keeping up with the changes from Standard Building Code to International Building Code. He co-founded Code Solutions Group, LLC as he retired his general contractors license and has concentrated all his time on consulting and building the client base for Code Solutions Group. Bob is certified by the International Code Council as a Building Inspector, Plans Examiner, Zoning Inspector, Residential and Commercial Energy Code Inspector, Residential Energy Code Plans Examiner, Certified Building Code Official and Certified Building Official.
Richard T. "Terry" Hughes, CBO. CBCO.
Co-owner
Background:
Terry began his career in the construction industry in 1970 while attending college at State Tech of Memphis and Memphis State University and working with a small remodeling construction company. Terry served as Plans Examiner from 1973 - 1980 followed by a transfer to the field as a Building Inspector in 1980. In 1984 Memphis and Shelby County Government consolidated the two building departments and created Memphis and Shelby County Construction Code Enforcement. Shorty afterward Terry was promoted to Senior Building Inspector. In 1987 Terry was appointed by the City and County Mayors to oversee all building construction and zoning compliance within the City, County, and surrounding areas of Shelby County Tennessee. Terry played a critical role in every major building project in the Memphis area while serving in this capacity, from the AAA baseball stadium to AutoZone's corporate headquarters with its many seismic specifications to the Memphis Pyramid entertainment venue, and everything in between.
Terry retired from his government position in February 2001 and began his career at Hnedak Bobo Group (HBG). This was a good transition from government to the private sector. A former top building official for Memphis and Shelby County: Terry brought 28 years of significant experience on major Memphis area building projects to Hnedak Bobo Group (HBG). As Senior Associate and leader of HBG's Code Consulting Services, Terry provided critical leadership with building/life safety code and ADA consulting: as well as building evaluation services for both internal and external clients. His tenure with HBG of 8.5-years has added to his experience and allowed him to expand his creative application of the codes to a new level by exposing him to the day to day operations of an architectural firm and their projects. Terry consults on projects that range from small office renovations to massive entertainment and high-rise resorts facilities all over the country.
Terry, an active codes and life safety advocate was appointed to key leadership positions within several committees including the Southern Standard Building Code Congress; the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA). and other national associations. Other notable achievements include: Past President of the Tennessee Building Official Association, Founder of the West Tennessee Code Enforcement Association and key note speaker at numerous professional association meetings and conferences including "We Can't Afford to Gamble with Life Safety," a lecture about life safety in assembly spaces/buildings: presented to multiple audiences including Memphis City Council, CSI, the University of Memphis classes, and code enforcement associations. In 2001, Terry was named the State of Tennessee Building Official of the Year, the most coveted honor of the association and was awarded a life time honorary membership to the TBOA.
